On December 19, 2024, at the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) headquarters, the Vietnam Association of Securities Businesses (VASB) held an ESG Council meeting to review and approve the methodology and results of ESG practice assessments for 34 securities companies. This marks a significant step towards enhancing corporate governance quality, promoting sustainable development, and integrating Vietnam's stock market into the global market.
The meeting gathered leading economic experts, along with representatives from regulatory bodies and businesses, including the active participation of RSM Vietnam Audit & Consulting Co., Ltd., as the project's strategic partner.
A Strategic Move by VASB and RSM Vietnam
Recognizing the critical importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in enhancing the competitiveness of businesses, VASB launched the ESG Practice Scoring Project for the 2023 fiscal year. This project is a collaboration between VASB, RSM Vietnam, and the Seneca ESG technology platform, marking the first initiative in the securities industry to assess and improve ESG practices in line with international standards.
As the main consulting partner, RSM Vietnam plays a key role in developing the methodology, conducting assessments, and proposing practical solutions to enhance ESG practices. The scoring methodology and criteria were designed by RSM’s expert team based on current domestic regulations, international best practices, and insights from ESG evaluation programs of leading global companies.
The ESG Evaluation Journey: The Foundation for Sustainable Development
The project was carried out in two main phases:
Phase 1: Survey of ESG readiness, featuring 31 questions focused on three key pillars: Environment, Social, and Governance.
Phase 2: ESG practice scoring, based on a set of 43 detailed questions that assess various aspects of a company’s ESG practices.
The evaluation process took place from April to October 2024, with the participation of 34 securities companies that are members of VASB. The results revealed that 7 securities companies led in ESG practices, becoming role models in the industry and paving the way for spreading sustainable values to other businesses.
